Hello! We took a bit of a hiatus- regrouping, restoring, rejuicing, recharging, ya know, realizing things 😉 What can we say, 2016 was a handful 🤷♀️ But 2017 holds a lot of promise, a lot more Locals, a lot more cities, a lot more on withthelocals.co and a lot more more.
Very happy to start the year off with the very kind and creative Amanda Nolan Booker @amandanolanbooker "A Tennessee native, I'm an artist, prop stylist and lifestyle photographer based in Chattanooga... so expect at least a couple of recommendations based on my experiences in that area of downtown Chattanooga and its art scene! My prop styling and photography have been my lifeblood during the last five years, allowing me to immerse myself into the creative community within Chattanooga and beyond.
It's is a haven for artists of all disciplines and we have a pretty impressive food scene, if I do say so myself. Ours is a city of constant progress and collaboration. There is truly something for everyone here.
I'm currently doing a series of 30 second drawings every day in 2017 which I am very excited about. You can see the drawings live every day on my Instagram Stories!”
Hello! I’m Amanda and I’m so excited to be showing you around @chattanooga! Our first stop is a forever favorite of mine, @wildflowerteashop, a light-filled little tea and herb shop located on Market Street which offers holistic healing services and hosts various workshops in addition to serving tea. With its exposed brick walls and abundant plant life, it’s an ideal setting for just about anything. Enjoy a pot of tea and while you are here stock up on herbal remedies from local artisans. @amandanolanbooker
While we’re here at @wildflowerteashop I couldn’t fail to show you a glimpse of the amazing variety of bulk herbs they carry! Utterly mesmerizing, with a tea selection just as extensive. But don’t fret- if you are having difficulty choosing your brew (as I often do) they are quick to help in any way they can. I have never met a tea I didn’t love. Our next stop is just down the street! @amandanolanbooker
Our next stop on our tour of Chattanooga is @warehouserow, my go-to spot for shopping downtown. Dating back to the Civil War, this historic building now houses many of my favorite places to shop and dine, including @twotenjackchatt, @revivalinteriors, @linesorchids, @shadowboxpaperie and so much more! I inevitably turn up here every. single. time. I shop downtown, regardless if it was actually “on the way” as I so frequently claim. - @amandanolanbooker
Book lovers and record lovers (which I assume includes all of you, right?), this next stop is for you. @winderbinder is an eclectic shop located on the NorthShore, carrying books, records, folk art, and more. I’ve been a regular for years and I always enjoy walking through the cramped aisles and letting my eyes take in more books than is generally considered healthy. Sure, it’s a bit overstimulating, but that’s just the only way to shop for books in my opinion. It’s just a short walk down the street to our next stop. @amandanolanbooker
Stopping in at @revelatorchatt for an espresso can quickly become a crucial part of your routine if you live in @chattanooga. In my experience the atmosphere is pretty laid back, even when there’s a bit of a rush. I usually get a 6 oz. latte (for here!), try snag one of the chairs near the window, and break out my laptop. @amandanolanbooker
Our next stop on our tour of @chattanooga is @easybistro, a restaurant located in the Riverfront District serving a spectacular menu by @cheferikniel and an impressive cocktail menu to boot. It’s a favorite of mine for Sunday brunch, during which I invariably order a carafe of mimosas and indulge in a selection of pastries in addition to my meal. @amandanolanbooker
I can’t introduce you to @easybistro without also mentioning @mainstreetmeats, a restaurant, butcher shop, specialty grocery, and bar which is also owned by @cheferikniel. My husband and I love their lunch menu (housemade chips anyone?) and are tempted to stop in every time we are even remotely near Main Street. @amandanolanbooker
Even if you aren’t interested in dining out or doing much shopping while you are here, there are so many reasons to get out and explore Chattanooga. Being a city devoted to the arts, I wanted to give you a glimpse of the public/street art in Chatt! There are so many wonderful works it was a challenge to choose which I would use in this post. Ultimately, this mural of blues legend Robert Johnson by artist Kevin Bate prevailed. It is one of many murals by Bate around Chattanooga (MLK alone is home to quite a few, Martin Luther King Jr. himself, Bessie Smith, and more). @amandanolanbooker
Next stop, @localjuice! Juice fiends, this is your place for cold pressed, raw organic juice if you are near Main Street. Order from their wide range of juices on the menu or create your own. They also offer juice cleanses! @amandanolanbooker
No NorthShore shopping trip is quite complete without stopping in @sophies_shoppe. I recently learned that it is owned by two sisters and named after their grandmother, just one of those little details that highlights its charm. The shoppe is beautifully curated, stocked with both modern and rustic home decor and plenty of gift ideas that are sure to delight. @amandanolanbooker
Our final stop on our tour of Chattanooga is @therefindery! You really didn’t think I’d neglect to stop by an antique store, did you? In addition to scouring thrift stores and estate sales on the weekends, The Refindery on McCallie is my favorite place to score unique finds for my prop collection. While you will find many booths set up by individual vendors, they also have an impressive architectural salvage section. Just look at all these beautiful old doors! @amandanolanbooker
Well you guys, this is my final post for my @withthelocals takeover! I've had such a wonderful time showing you around Chattanooga. I hope you'll visit the places mentioned during our tour if you're visiting and let us know how you enjoyed them. Do keep in touch! I think I'll be taking this find from @therefindery home with me! @amandanolanbooker
