Self declared Valley Girl, born and bred Angeleno Lizzy Okoro @lizzyokoro is up this week.
What is the most LA thing about her? "My accent. I'm a real life valley girl. Whatever you think a typical valley girl sounds like, multiply that times 10 and that's what I sound like." Lizzy is also the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of BUNCH Magazine @bunchmagazine, one of my favorite publications. BUNCH Magazine is a print magazine that serves as a 'Guide for the Daring Creative'. And you should absolutely check it out. "What is surprising is that there is an incredible culture of food, art and fashion. I moved to New York because, well it's an awesome city, but because I felt that LA didn't have an appreciation for anyone outside of Hollywood. I'm back now and my eyes have been opened, let's just say that... The stereotype of 'LA people' really comes from the people who were not born here. LA is a city of transplants and sometimes they feel that they have to fit into a Los Angeles archetype. The person who is born and raised here is probably the last person you'd suspect to be from Los Angeles."

Hi everyone! @lizzyokoro from @bunchmagazine here. It was nerve-wracking trying to decide what to showcase first: food? Something beachy? Cute puppies at fancy dog parks? I decided to go with my gut and share one of my favorite boutiques in one of my favorite neighborhoods: @gramercyyork in Culver City. Culver is a way cool area on the west side, right before you hit the beach. There are amazing restaurants and cafes, movie studios, art galleries, and they were ahead of the "being green and eco conscious" before a lot of areas.
But back to Gramercy York! They have everything you need for guys, girls, and your house. Think @pfcandleco candles, James Perse shirts, @Herschelsupply backpacks and a lot of indie brands and store exclusives. If you go in say hi to the owner who is super sweet and put a lot of love and care into his store.

Oh hello! @lizzyokoro here. Here in LA we take our Mexican food seriously. Ask anyone what their favorite place is and they probably have at least 3 whose honor they will defend tooth and nail. For me that place is @ramonasmexican. It's a childhood favorite of mine and my mom has been going since she was a little girl. Try the beef and potato or red chile burrito. and their picadillo beef and potato taco. And well everything on the menu!
@lizzyokoro back with another food report. Have you had Pho? No you have not if you haven't taken a trip to Simply Pho You. <-- How much do you love that name? 😍 for under $10 you can get your Vietnamese comfort food fix. Located in the heart of Koreatown, this small, family run restaurant is never empty and well worth the (short) wait. I like my Pho with extra onion, extra sriracha, and extra jalapeño. Who wants a kiss?😗

@lizzyokoro checking in! It was super difficult for me to choose which store or restaurant or coffee shop to display on Fairfax Ave so I decided to capture as much as I could with this photo. Known for a mix of amazing Jewish delicatessens, vintage boutiques and streetwear stores, Fairfax is an amazing destination for anyone visiting. Often referred to as #FairfaxNatives, the community here is comprised of young skaters, artists, and sneaker enthusiasts (If you squint hard enough you can see the line of people waiting to get into the @supreme store). If you're looking for shopping mixed with a little bit of culture, this is your place!

@lizzyokoro here and I kinda don't know where to begin when it comes to @honeyskettle. The food is like a culinary overload of amazingness. The chicken is just the beginning. It's served with seasoned fries, bread and butter pickles, a blueberry pancake biscuit (!!!!!) and little pots of hot sauce and warm honey. Plus it's all locally sourced and family owned. An absolute MUST when you're in town.
#TGIF! There is no lack of nightlife when it comes to living in LA but it's not always easy to find a place that combines amazing dinner, ambiance, and a view of the city. @perchlosangeles wins for a Friday night on the town! See you there
Standing out in a crowd can be difficult but not if you're @paper_plastik! This Mid-City cafe is super communal, from the weekly events they host, to the tables reserved exclusively for the people who make coffee shops their office spaces (ahem, which would be me!). If you don't go for anything else, go for the marshmallow chocolate chip cookie and say hi if you see me there. Spoiler alert! I'm ALWAYS there so you will see me.
@lizzyokoro here! I would be remiss if I didn't mention something magazine related. LA isn't as well known for magazine stands as NY but we don't do too bad here. @thedailyplanetbookstore is nestled in the Hollywood Hills and has a beautiful corner's worth of international magazines. Not to mention a pretty rad book and knick-knack collection. And if you need a place to get cozy with your newly purchased mags, Bougeois Pig cafe is right next door with free wifi and couches, all available until 2am.

A few years ago, I moved to NY and right before I did I went on a food tour of LA, going to my favorite spots before my departure. I got to @cassellshamburgers and lo and behold they were closed! 😭 i was devastated wondering where I would get a turkey burger that was juicier then a regular hamburger. Right after I moved back, Cassell's returned bigger and better then ever. The location may be different but the burgers are just as amazing as I remember.

Just a few short years ago, no one wanted to touch downtown la with a ten foot pole. Whereas downtown has always translated to cool and of the moment in other cities, our downtown is just catching on. Now, you can't talk about LA with shouting out #DTLA lol. There's a lot of excitement with stores, restaurants and hotels popping up and my personal fave is the @Aesopskincare shop. Somehow they just get it right when it comes to something as simple as soap.
@lizzyokoro of @bunchmagazine signing off. I had to give you a piece of what LA is known for: picture perfect weather! ☀️ Until recently I had no idea that there was a bike path that leads from the middle of the city all the way to Marina Del Rey which is a beautiful beachside neighborhood in LA. Ballona Creek bike path is completely devoted to cyclists and runners so you don't have to worry about cars or traffic, just focus on taking in the gorgeous scenery.
I've had fun sharing bits and pieces of LA and I hope you've enjoyed it too! If you're ever in town and need some recommendations, don't be a stranger.
