Designer, musician, boutique owner & all around cool girl (& my new hair obsession) Kelsie McNair @withlavandlace is taking us around her town of Norfolk, VA. "I've been running With Lavender & Lace for over 5 years now and by far my favorite part about it is curating an image and brand to share with like-minded individuals. I try to do whatever I can to help cultivate the idea of strong independent creatives carving out their own paths in a world of standard narratives and suggested direction."
As far as Norfolk's influence, "there is definitely an energy to create a place we all want to exist in, and it's endless. There are new ventures starting all the time and lots of awesome people to befriend! Norfolk is an old city filled that is constantly filled with new people. It's a wonderful place that is small enough to start projects in and big enough for them to be supported making them an excellent hub for developing talent and creative energy."
Hi folks 🌸 This is @withlavandlace from Norfolk, VA coming at you this week with my top favorite places for eating, playing & exploring in my little city! First stop is the lovely Parlor on Granby! @parlorongranby is an excellent spot to visit for shows or a cocktail with friends. They have wonderful waffles at brunch on the weekends and an environment that beats many of the bars and saloons I have visited in my travels. Enchanting and warm, the Parlor provides great vibes always 🍸

Good Morning friends ☕️ Today's first stop in Norfolk is @cure_eats ! Cure is a favorite cafe of mine because they serve really REALLY a great tasting coffee and have been playing around in latte art lately which is always super fun! Located in the beautiful cobblestone neighborhood of Freemason, this place serves food all day as well as cocktails and beers making it a sweet after work spot! They always have a great selection of local brews available too.

Norfolk is a place that's really movin' and shakin' right now! In the past few years, the NEON (New Energy of Norfolk) Arts District has been seeing a lot of important growth and love by small businesses and big ideas. It's been awesome to watch life being added back to this old city ✨ visit here to check out new hot spots to eat, play outside, get a drink, see a show or take a class!
Norfolk is an old city that is sprinkled with weird and wonderful architecture. This neighborhood is called Riverview and is located right next to the Zoo. A good friend of mine lives over there and says she wakes up to lions roaring!

Mmmm, an afternoon Turkish coffee from Pasha Mezze is the perfect little boost needed to finish out the rest of the work day! Pasha is an amazing Anatolian restaurant that serves loads of organic and vegan delights. I love sitting on their patio on a nice day!

Since Norfolk is commonly recognized for it's massive military presence, you've got to know we have a ton of transplants. Apart from the diverse population, we have really awesome thrift shopping! Treasures make their way from all over the country to this place making the thrifts usually quite rich in goodies. On this one street alone there are three spots to hunt!

Norfolk is super lucky to have such an incredible art museum! The Chrysler Museum of Art has been around since 1939 and houses over 30,000 objects spanning nearly 5,000 years of history! Also, if you're into glass blowing or glass work, the museum has an amazing glass studio and program unlike any on the east coast! @chryslermuseum
Time for a drink! Bardo @bardo_norfolk is an awesome tapas restaurant located in the heart of Ghent that serves a slew of small plates and cocktails that change with the season. Here is the Amoha cocktail which is basically a pomegranate party. 🎈
Good morning from Virginia! I love stopping by @zekesnfk for an incredible acai or poke bowl and a side of fresh watermelon juice!

One cherished Norfolk boutique is @shopwithlavandlace ! This special place is filled with vintage and handmade goodies and has been my main gig for going on 5 years! I feel really lucky to have found a community that supported a small shop like mine and helped it grow! We sell vintage and vinyl and provide a place to have conversation and make connections. You an find more info about the shop, visit withlavenderandlace.com 🌸
Starting my weekend right with @toastrunners toast! This is a cool newish restaurant in the area that is open all day for breakfast and into the late night! With cool drinks and an amazing array of meals on house baked bread slices, Toast offers very cool vibes with a perfect outside garden seating. They also have DJ nights every week. Definitely a place to stop for lunch if you're ever in the area!
Living in Norfolk and being apart of it's developing art scene is a really special thing! We've got a lot of creative energy which means there are often art projects and shows to see. This particular show was an installation by Heather Bryant of her living space at the Art Gallery on 21st st. @heatherendeavor is a printmaker, painter and color obsessed collector who decorates and embellishes most parts of her life. She creates creepy characters that reveal important parts of humanity and is a big part of Norfolk's creative movement!
Southeastern VA is literally surrounded in water. Between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, we've got a lot of beaches, harbors, & bridges galore! This is East Beach, a small colorful community facing the bay. I love to take quiet beach days here to decompress!

Happy Weekend! @waffletina pop-up shops always are a fun find! Amazing waffle sandwiches and sweets make for a mean morning treat paired with coffee and eaten in the sunshine. One of my favorite foods ever!
A really fun thing to do in Norfolk is visit the Botanical Gardens @norfolkbotanicalgarden! They've got SUCH a wonderful rose garden and during azalea season, you can't look anywhere without seeing blooms! It's a great place to picnic or take long walks.
We get excited about eating local here in Norfolk! Got all of these veggies from Five Points Farmers Market @5_points_market off 26th Street! They also have an amazing cafe with perfect brunch on the weekends along with @kombuchick (kombucha brewer) and a few other vendors. Totally worth a visit!
We have the most amazing french macaron shop in Norfolk! I've eaten them in so many cities and I really think @hummingbirdmacarons make the best ones! How lucky are WE?!
Here is the owner of Analogue Arts and Trade: a film photo shop with a darkroom, print services along with books and interesting collectables. We are super lucky to have such a specific shop to learn about analogue processes, including how to use a camera and how to shoot and develop film. Miki is an excellent photographer. This is a show she had a few months ago exploring analogue photography processes. @Analogue_arts
A coffee and treat from @CafeStellaRoasters on a Sunday morning is really ideal. Stella roasts their own coffee beans and make an iced coffee that isn't safe to drink past 2pm because it will keep you awake for the rest of your life. The cafe has a ton of beautiful seating and a area of vintage and antique housewears available for purchase. Cafe Stella is special to me because they opened up the year I opened my shop, since then so many new businesses and dreamers have been popping up in the area! Like I've said before, living in a place with supportive people is key for making magic happen!

The Pagoda is a funny little Norfolk staple. This marvelous building sits over looking the water in Freemason. I love taking walks down to it and seeing the koi fish swim around it's fountains.
Freemason is a delightful place to walk around. Filled with cafes and little shops along with darling (and dangerous) cobblestones, taking a stroll in that area is always a pretty adventure!

Well you guys and gals, I hope you enjoyed my little tour of Norfolk! There are still countless things I could share about this cool town but I am out of time! Follow me over at @withlavandlace to see everyday life by a Norfolk local and if you are ever in southeastern VA, come see us! This photo is from earlier this year at our annual Harborfest when big boats come and hang out in our harbors for a few days. This place has a little bit of magic! Thanks for following along 🌸
